Michelle Hicks, MSN, NP-C

Michelle Hicks joined the School of Nursing in 2009. Her clinical expertise includes family practice, women’s health, urgent care and in-patient internal medicine. She continues her clinical practice in adult and pediatric rheumatology at St Luke’s in Boise. Hicks earned a master’s degree in nursing and completed the family nurse practitioner program in 1999 from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, a BS in Nursing from the University of Texas in 1994, and a BS in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University in 1991.  Her
nursing experience includes telemetry, medical ICU and case management.  She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Practitioners of Idaho.

Hicks has been teaching since 2008 in RN-BSN in addition to the AGNP program. As a professor, she strives to promote the balance of art and science in nursing. She feels her role is to facilitate the construction of knowledge, stimulate curiosity and promote independent thinking.
She encourages students to be life-long learners, to adapt to the ever-changing healthcare landscape and to collaborate with other disciplines.

Hicks utilizes a variety of teaching modalities including active learning assignments, interactive group work and clinical case studies to prepare student for practice. In her free time, she enjoys spending time exploring Idaho with her family.
