Rachel Finnell, MSN, RN
Clinical Assistant Professor, UG Prelicensure Program
Rachel Finnell joined the Boise State School of Nursing in 2017. She has a great love for our students and campus as she is a former graduate of our own Bachelors of Science Nursing program. Since that time, she has had the privilege of working and volunteering locally for West Valley Medical Center, College of Western Idaho, and the annual “Love Caldwell” free medical clinic. Understanding her love of education, Finnell pursued and completed her Masters of Science in Nursing Education through Western Governors University.
Finnell has a broad range of experience working both in Float Pool and on the Family Maternity Center for WVMC. This experience ranges from ICU, Med-Surg, O.R. and Mental Health to Labor/Delivery, Post-Partum and NICU. As well as experience as an adjunct clinical instructor for both College of Western Idaho and Boise State University.
Finnell believes nursing to be one of the most noble and versatile careers available, one which offers incredible growth potential. She sincerely enjoys supporting her students as they work toward their career goals.
Outside of Nursing and Education, Finnell enjoys camping, hiking and generally seeking adventure with her family and friends.
She is also interested in methods used to identify critical care patients for palliative care referral, and in prevention and treatment of delirium among older critical care patients.
In addition to her research interests, Finnell is active in the community via her work with the Idaho Pressure Ulcer Prevention Coalition and also in regional and national organizations. As a teacher, Finnell strives to maintain a supportive and open learning environment, and she is honored to teach the next generation of nurses.
