Marilyn O’Mallon, PhD, RN
Undergraduate RN-BS Track Director and Associate Professor, School of Nursing

Marilyn O’Mallon earned her PhD from Hampton University School of Nursing in Hampton, VA, and her Master’s degree in nursing from Armstrong State University in Savannah, GA.
O’Mallon’s doctoral research explored family caregiver perceptions of social support in bereavement. She is especially interested in the delivery of quality palliative/end-of-life care, and best practices in caring for patients and their family members throughout the disease trajectory and into bereavement.
O’Mallon’s professional career outside of her 13 years in academia includes 16 years of civil service work in military clinics and hospitals in the United States and Germany. The highlight of her military medicine experience was working in the operating room during the first Gulf War (1991) in Nuremberg, Germany. The healthcare team at the 56th General Military Hospital received special training on how to manage active duty patients returning to the European theater from the Middle East (Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia) for medical treatment.
Dr. O’Mallon accepted a full time position at Boise State University in summer 2016. She currently serves in the role of Online Program Director for the RN-BS Completion Track of study.
O’Mallon is passionate about nursing education and enjoys guiding students toward successful completion of the degrees in which they are seeking. O’Mallon also hopes to be seen hiking the regional mountain ranges, mountain biking, photographing in national parks, and walking with her dog.
