Grassley, PhD, RN, IBCLC<\/strong> and Donna J. Sauls, PhD, RN published \u201cEvaluation of the Supportive Needs of Adolescents during Childbirth Intrapartum Nursing Intervention on Adolescents\u2019 Childbirth Satisfaction and Breastfeeding Rates\u201d in the Jan.\/Feb. edition of the \u201cJournal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, &amp; Neonatal Nursing.\u201d The article is an evaluation of the Supportive Needs of Adolescents during Childbirth (SNAC), intrapartum nursing intervention on adolescents\u2019 childbirth satisfaction and breastfeeding rates. The results of this evaluation of SNAC<sup>\u00a9<\/sup> intervention seem to suggest that nurses can positively influence adolescents\u2019 childbirth experience and timing of breastfeeding initiation. When intrapartum nurses provided adolescents with age-appropriate labor support and assistance with breastfeeding in the first hour, adolescents reported higher childbirth satisfaction and were more likely to initiate breastfeeding in the first hour. Spencer, MSN, RN, IBCLC, and Becky Law, BSN, IBCLC, LCCE will also have an article published in the April 2012 edition of \u201cThe Journal of Perinatal Education.\u201d Their article, \u201cA Grandmothers\u2019 Tea: Evaluation of a Breastfeeding Support Intervention,\u201d focuses on a study to evaluate an intervention to facilitate grandmothers\u2019 knowledge and support of breastfeeding. The intervention group had greater posttest knowledge scores than the control group but had no significant differences in attitudes or intent. However, a significant difference was evident between the attitude scores of grandmothers who breastfed their infants and of grandmothers who did not breastfeed their infants regardless of receiving the intervention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jane S.
