Students build skills and relationships that last a lifetime, growing in leadership and connecting with their peers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Boise State\u2019s undergraduate nursing students, this experience is found in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/nursing\/sna\/\">Student Nurses Association<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-who-is-sna\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who is SNA?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Student Nurses Association is a student-led organization consisting of current nursing students at Boise State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/nursing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2025\/02\/SNA-board-F24-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Seven students in blue scrub tops group together outside and smile.\" class=\"wp-image-197244\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The executive board of SNA in fall 2024.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a chapter of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsna.org\/\">national-level SNA<\/a>, which aims to provide professional development and keep students informed about nursing trends and legislative issues impacting the profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBeing a part of the Student Nurses Association allows for students to be exposed to a range of opportunities that foster both personal and professional growth,\u201d said Makena Chase, current SNA president. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cServing on the executive board has also given students a chance to develop leadership skills, collaborate with peers from different cohorts, and make a real impact within the club.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-does-sna-do\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does SNA do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SNA hosts events for nursing students\u2019 professional development and networking, like r\u00e9sum\u00e9 workshops, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/nursing\/2023\/10\/31\/student-empowered-by-nurses-day-at-the-capitol\/\">Nurses Day at the Capitol<\/a> and Meet the Employers, a job-fair type gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Meet the Employers, students connect with employers across the state, from St. Luke\u2019s and Kootenai health systems to the West Ada school district and U.S. Navy. The event provides students the opportunity to build relationships with Idaho employers and helps expand their horizons as to what career options are available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1300\" height=\"867\" src=\"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/nursing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2025\/02\/DSC05342_web-opt.jpg\" alt=\"Students talk to two smiling people behind a table and look at posters advertising healthcare careers\" class=\"wp-image-197278\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Meet the Employers event in Feb. 2025.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur &#8216;Meet the Nurses&#8217; event is one of our favorites,\u201d said Chase. \u201cIt\u2019s a unique chance to connect with nurses from all sorts of specialties, from flight nursing to NICU, and ask them questions about their careers and experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chase also said SNA\u2019s mentorship program has been \u201ca real highlight for many students.\u201d Newer nursing students pair with those further along in the program and \u201cthese mentor-mentee relationships have created a solid support system that helps guide us through the challenges of nursing school.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/nursing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2025\/02\/IMG_3543.jpg\" alt=\"Parade float with manikin lying on hospital bed and sign saying Even SNA can't save Aggie football\" class=\"wp-image-197279\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">SNA&#8217;s homecoming float from fall 2024, which won grand prize.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SNA also holds events for fundraising and volunteering, as well as gets involved in campus fun like the Homecoming Parade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-connect-grow-and-lead\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Connect, grow and lead<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SNA\u2019s current president is Makena Chase, a junior anticipating graduating in December 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/nursing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2025\/02\/IMG_4716-sq-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Two students staff a nurses association booth \" class=\"wp-image-197246\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Makena Chase, left, at a SNA tabling event in the Norco Building.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Student Nurses Association has truly been a space where we can connect, support each other, and prepare for the next steps in our nursing careers,\u201d she said. \u201cBeing a part of such an incredible executive team this year has truly grown my leadership levels immensely.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have some exciting new opportunities in the works that we hope will strengthen relationships with members from different cohorts and increase our connection and involvement with the community, and I am ecstatic to see what the future holds for SNA this semester and beyond,\u201d Chase said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are you a current nursing student? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/nursing\/sna\/getinvolved\/\">Get involved<\/a> today!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-training-leaders-of-the-future\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Training leaders of the future<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alum Lauren Smith (\u201903) is the regional chief nursing officer at Saint Alphonsus. She didn\u2019t always see herself in leadership, but one of her first experiences with it came from SNA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"664\" height=\"665\" src=\"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/nursing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/81\/2023\/12\/Smith-L-hallway-sq664.jpg\" alt=\"Lauren Smith wears a red blazer and stands smiling in a hallway.\" class=\"wp-image-195311\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Alum Lauren Smith is now a CNO at a local health system.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Smith stepped into the role of SNA president hoping to make a difference for her peers.
