Eldon Walker, assistant professor in the School of Nursing, will join others from the Boise chapter of Be the Change Africa in July to work with Nsumba Orphanage in Uganda.<\/p>\n

The group also is working with Destiny Friends International, which mobilizes support and resources in order to restore the lives of people affected by HIV\/AIDS, orphans and vulnerable children and the elderly.<\/p>\n

Every year the Be The Change local chapter collects clothes, dental supplies and medical supplies to take with them on a trip to Africa each July.<\/p>\n

In 2012, Walker traveled to the Nsumba Orphanage in Uganda with 14 other members of the local chapter. The orphanage is about two hours south of the capital of Kampala and has about 350 children ranging in age from 2 to 18 years old.<\/p>\n

Walker and his colleagues performed health assessments, HIV tests and hearing exams. They also taught the children about good health practices and about HIV.<\/p>\n

The Boise chapter had previously paid for 250 mosquito nets for the dorms where the kids live.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
