{"id":63842,"date":"2016-11-16T09:56:58","date_gmt":"2016-11-16T16:56:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hs.boisestate.edu\/?p=63842"},"modified":"2016-11-16T09:56:58","modified_gmt":"2016-11-16T16:56:58","slug":"american-public-health-association","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/nursing\/2016\/11\/16\/american-public-health-association\/","title":{"rendered":"Boise State University Students, Faculty, and Alumni Haunt the Halls of the American Public Health Association"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Boise State University was well represented at the 2016 American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting \u201cCreating the Healthiest Nation: Ensuring the Right to Health\u201d on Oct. 29 &#8211; Nov. 2 in Denver, Colorado. \u00a0The theme for the 2016 conference complemented research and programs underway at Boise State University and in the community.<\/p>\n<p>Over 12,500 public health practitioners, researchers, leaders, students and advocates participated in the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Peer reviewed podium presentations by individuals from Boise State included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cCost of Behavioral Crises Related to Alzheimer\u2019s Disease and Related Dementias on First Responder Systems: An Exploratory Study\u201d by Trina Stolp, student, and Sarah Toevs, director for the Center for the Study of Aging;<\/li>\n<li>\u201cEvaluation of Physical, Social and Emotional Outcomes of Idaho\u2019s Fit and Fall Proof Program on Older Adults\u201d by Michelle Arnett, graduate research assistant for the Center for the Study of Aging, Elizabeth Hannah, associate professor for the School of Allied Health Sciences Department of Community and Environmental Health, and Toevs;<\/li>\n<li>\u201cAge-friendly Community Assessment: Integration of World Health Organization and GIS Methods\u201d by Tami Cirerol and Stephanie Leonard, graduate research assistants for the Center for the Study of Aging, and Toevs;<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHealthy Habits, Healthy U: A School Based Cancer Education Program\u201d by Alicia Anderson, student, Caile Spear, professor for the School of Allied Health Sciences Department of Community and Environmental Health, and Mary Pritchard, professor for the Department of Psychological Science;<\/li>\n<li>\u201cImpact of CHW Certification on Team Climate in Texas \u2013 Grandfathering versus State Certified Training\u201d by Mark Siemon, former assistant professor for the School of Nursing, and Brenna Kreglo, student;<\/li>\n<li>\u201cEvaluation of Public Health Competencies in Undergraduate Nursing Education\u201d by Siemon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, the following peer-reviewed poster presentations were made by Boise State faculty and graduates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cMeeting the Workforce Development Needs of Public Health Agencies Through an Online Workforce Development Hub\u201d by Janice Lung, alumni, and Anderson;<\/li>\n<li>\u201cVaccine Administration and Storage Challenges for Healthcare Personnel\u201d by Pamela Strohfus associate professor for the School of Nursing and coordinator of the DNP program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Funding for travel was supported by community partners and the College of Health Sciences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Boise State University was well represented at the 2016 American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":202,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4082,4072,4071,4077],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-63842","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-csa-news","category-cohs-news","category-son-news","category-spph"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.2 (Yoast SEO v27.2) -
