Configure Mobile Devices for Gmail and G Suite

Learn how to configure and access your G Suite content on phones, tablets, and computers.

For the best experience, we recommend using Google’s native mobile applications available for free through the App Store or Google Play.

If you don’t want to use Google’s mobile apps, and instead want to configure your devices native email, calendar, and/or contacts with Boise State G Suite, follow the instructions below.

iOS and Android Instructions

iOS

The instructions below are for devices running iOS 12 or later.

1. First, check to be sure IMAP settings are enabled in your Gmail web client. Sign in to your Boise State Gmail account on a computer, select Settings from the gear menu, select Forwarding and POP/IMAP, and be sure Enable IMAP is checked:

2. On your iOS device, go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts.

3. Tap Add Account.

4. Select Google.

5. Enter your Boise State email address. You’ll then be directed to a Boise State login screen; enter your Boise State username and password.

6. Choose to sync your Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and/or Notes.

7. Tap Save to complete.

Android

There are many versions of Android, and some of them may have different settings than described below. Contact the Help Desk for questions or assistance.

1. First, check to be sure IMAP settings are enabled in your Gmail web client. Sign in to your Boise State Gmail account on a computer, select Settings from the gear menu, select Forwarding and POP/IMAP, and be sure Enable IMAP is checked:

2. From Home, tap Settings.

3. Select Accounts (or Accounts & Sync).

4. Tap Add Account > Email.

5. Enter your email address, then tap Next.

6. Choose Personal (IMAP).

7. Enter your Boise State password, and tap Next.

8. Verify “Incoming Server Settings” are as follows:

  • Server: imap.gmail.com
  • Port: 993
  • Security tupe: SSL/TLS

9. Verify “Outgoing Server Settings” are as follows:

  • Server: smtp.gmail.com
  • Port: 587
  • Security type: STARTTLS

Tap Next.

10. Choose your account options, and select Next.

11. Name your account if desired, and tap Next.
