Other Email Clients

You can configure other email clients if you don’t wish to use Gmail for your email.

However, we discourage the use of other email clients because of the possibility an official University email message will be blocked or or otherwise missed.

University policy requires students to read all official email sent from Boise State email addresses.

How to Configure Other Email Clients

Email clients generally use either IMAP or POP as an email protocol.

Before setting up an IMAP or POP connection, make sure your G Suite (or “BroncoMail”) account is configured to accept IMAP/POP connections:

  • In Gmail, go to the Gear icon and choose Mail Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP and ensure your account is enabled for POP and IMAP access.

IMAP and POP Configuration Instructions

Be sure to use your full email address (username@boisestate.edu) when setting up the IMAP configuration, and clear the captcha for your Google for Education account.

Be sure to use your full email address (username@boisestate.edu) when setting up the POP configuration, and clear the captcha for your Google for Education account.

Please note the Help Desk can provide you with basic information to help connect and configure IMAP and POP clients to send and receive email, but cannot answer functional questions about how to use the clients.
