New Smart Compose in Gmail and Content Manager Role in Team Drives

Smart Compose in Gmail

Smart Compose has been added to Gmail to make it easier to compose emails. As you type, Smart Compose will suggest common phrases and other relevant information. It will also get smarter the more you use it by learning your style, such as the salutations you use most.

Smart Compose is turned on by default. If you don’t want to use Smart Compose, you can turn it off in Gmail general settings (Smart Compose > Writing suggestions off).

Content Manager Role Added to Team Drives

Later in October, a new “Content manager” role will be added to Team Drives to make file management easier. Content manager will be the new default role for members added to a Team Drive.

Users with the Content manager role will be able to edit, reorganize, and delete content, but they can’t change Team Drive settings or add/delete members. The names of all roles are also being updated.

Roles in Team Drives will be:

  • Manager (was “Full access”)
  • Content manager (new role, and the default role for new members of the Team Drive)
  • Contributor (was “Edit access”)
  • Commenter (was “Comment access”)
  • Viewer (was “View access”)
