Update 5/7:
Canvas is currently unavailable. This outage is occurring at the Canvas platform level. At this time, there are no available workarounds for accessing Canvas and we do not recommend logging in through the mobile app or any other interface.

We know this significantly impacts testing and continue to monitor the situation. Follow the status page for updates.

Original post 5/5:
We are aware of reports of a security breach involving Canvas. Thousands of institutions worldwide are potentially impacted.

Instructure, Canvas’s parent company, has confirmed the incident and stated that core data was not accessed, though the investigation is ongoing. The company has taken immediate mitigation steps and is working with external security experts.

At this time, we have no indication that Boise State Canvas data has been affected, and we are actively monitoring the situation. Canvas remains available and fully functional for students and faculty, and there is no impact to finals, grading, or other instructional activities.

We require our vendors to meet strict security standards, including safeguarding sensitive data. User passwords are managed within university systems and are not shared with Canvas or other third-party systems.

We will provide updates as relevant information becomes available.
