Frequently asked questions
General questions
Why is Boise State moving from Jamf to Microsoft Intune?
Boise State is transitioning to Microsoft Intune to simplify device management and strengthen security. Intune is part of Microsoft’s enterprise management platform and integrates with Microsoft Entra, allowing OIT to manage security policies, device compliance, and access from a single platform.
Moving to Intune also improves reporting, streamlines management of university-owned devices, and provides a more consistent way to deploy macOS updates and other software.
Will anything change after my Mac is enrolled?
Most users will notice little to no difference after enrollment. Your applications, files, and settings will remain intact. You may notice some new management or security features over time as Boise State continues to modernize device management.
Will I still have a separate password for logging in to my Mac?
In most cases, no. If your Mac previously used a separate local password, enrolling in Microsoft Intune will synchronize your Mac sign-in with your Boise State account. Going forward, you’ll use your Boise State credentials to sign in to your Mac, eliminating the need to remember and maintain a separate local password.
Troubleshooting
I received a “Mac SSO Extension quit unexpectedly” message. What should I do?
This is a known issue that can occur on some Macs after enrollment. Please contact the Help Desk at (208) 426-4357 or helpdesk@boisestate.edu for assistance. In some cases, resolving the issue requires re-enrolling the device in Microsoft Intune, and the Help Desk will guide you through the process.
What happened to Self Service?
After your Mac is enrolled in Microsoft Intune, Self Service may no longer be available or may no longer display the applications and resources you previously used. This is expected as your device transitions from Jamf to Intune.
Going forward, use the Microsoft Company Portal app to view your device status and access resources provided through Intune.
