The most popular modality in Boise State University’s online Bachelor of Science in Advanced Medical Imaging program is diagnostic medical sonography (DMS).
With the DMS modality, you can qualify to sit for the RDMS or ARRT (S) exams and gain knowledge of sonographic physics and instrumentation, abdominal and obstetrics/gynecology sonography and doppler procedures.
Even if you are considering diagnostic medical sonography programs, there are four other modality options to choose from to customize your bachelor’s degree.
You must select one modality to complete the program with specific course requirements. The four options outside of the DMS modality are:
- Interventional radiology: Prepare to qualify to sit for the ARRT Vascular-Interventional (VI) credentialing exam and learn to monitor, scrub and circulate interventional procedures. The interventional radiology modality requires an existing credential ARRT(R) before application to the modality year.
- Interventional cardiology: Prepare to qualify to sit for ARRT Cardiac-Interventional (CI) credentialing exam and/or the CCI RCIS exam and learn to monitor, scrub and circulate interventional cardiac procedures.
- Computed tomography: Qualify to sit for the ARRT (CT) exam, learn core principles of computed tomography and gain practical skills through clinical experience. The computed tomography modality requires an existing credential ARRT(R), NMTCB, ARRT(RT) before application to the modality year.
- Magnetic resonance imaging: Qualify to sit for the ARRT (MR) exam and learn principles of magnetic and gain practical experience through clinicals.
The 100% online format gives you the flexibility to gain access to schoolwork anywhere with an internet connection and is designed for working adults.
Through local clinical experience, you can gain hands-on experience in your area, adding practical application taught by experienced professionals to the theoretical knowledge from the curriculum.
Certificates available
If you are a medical imaging professional with an associate or bachelor’s degree, you can acquire training in a specific modality in less time than a degree with four undergraduate certificate options. Those options are:
Certificate in Interventional Radiology and Interventional Cardiology: This option is relevant for health care professionals who have a degree but want to transition into interventional radiology or interventional cardiology and prepare for ARRT(CI), ARRT (VI) and CCI RCIS exams. This modality requires an existing credential ARRT(R) before application to the modality year.
Certificate in Computed Tomography: This option is relevant for radiological technologists with an associate or bachelor’s degree looking to transition into the computed tomography field. The computed tomography certificate prepares you to sit for the ARRT (CT) exam. This modality requires an existing credential ARRT(R), NMTCB, ARRT(RT) before application to the modality year.
Certificate in Magnetic Resonance Imaging: This option is for ARRT, ARDMS or NMTCB credentialed imaging technologists who want to transition into the magnetic resonance imaging field. The magnetic resonance imaging modality prepares you to sit for the ARRT (MR) exam and provides you with problem-solving skills to navigate complex scenarios.
Certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography: This option is relevant to healthcare professionals looking to transition into diagnostic medical sonography and prepares you to sit for the RDMS exam.
Whether your interests lie in diagnostic medical sonography programs, another program modality or a certificate option, Boise State offers a high-quality education with an innovative approach.
You will gain a global perception and understanding of patient experiences within medical imaging through interactive technologies and the intra-modality learning experience.
