Boise State University’s online Bachelor of Applied Science is a customizable degree plan that enables students to transfer up to 80 college credits, including technical credits and credits for prior learning, which come from work and life experience.

Top benefits of an online Bachelor of Applied Science degree

There are many benefits to furthering your career prospects toward leadership roles. Boise State’s online Bachelor of Applied Science program helps prepare future leaders by offering several applicable leadership-focused certificates and supportive certificates in conflict management and communication. Some of the top benefits of this individualized program include:

Crafting your own degree plan

This Boise State Online program is somewhat unique in that you can work with your student success coach and advisors to craft a curriculum that not only matches your career goals and needs, but fits within your busy work (and life) schedule.

Online students using mobile devices and reviewing printed materials

You’ll have choices of in-demand emphasis areas, concentrations and certificates to fill out your degree plan. All of which can help you become a more well-rounded leader.

Increasing your post-graduate career opportunities

As you build up your knowledge base, the education and training you receive may help open the door to new career opportunities within your current field or when considering a potential career change and weighing your available options.

Increasing your earning potential

Hand-in-hand with career opportunities and advancement is an increase in earning potential. High-paying jobs in cyber operations, project management and health services management are all paths you can pursue with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree.

Real students, real success stories

Boise State Online regularly features the stories of real students who have completed the educational journey from prospect to graduate and beyond.

Zoom Nguyen enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Science program at Boise State after earning an associate’s degree from the College of Western Idaho. She felt stalled in her desire to move on toward a bachelor’s degree until she attended a Boise State information session and learned that she wouldn’t have to start from scratch by putting her acquired credits to good use. But why stop there? In 2023, Zoom enrolled in the online Master of Business Administration in Management, all with the ultimate goal of advancing her leadership role at Micron Technology.

“I like to do good work, and I also like to support and bring people around me up. That’s why I chose leadership. The reason I did an MBA is to gain advanced leadership skills to effectively manage people and projects. I also want to make more impactful changes in policy,” she said.

The BAS certificates, particularly the Certificate in Conflict Management, helped Air Force Master Sergeant Douglas Fellows expand his leadership knowledge and interpersonal skills.

“The best course was the conflict management course, which applied directly to my job. It gave me a lot of good vocabulary in my current role,” Fellows said.

The course helped him prepare for thoughtful and engaging conflict resolution and civil discourse, furthering his leadership position and managerial effectiveness.

Mother of four, Patricia Reay, also found that the BAS coursework helped reframe her decision-making, an important step toward becoming a better leader.

“In the program, we take an integrative learning course, and it will flip your thinking on its head in the best possible way. It stops you from choosing between two bad decisions and allows you to look for more options. If you can’t find them, it helps you create new options,” she said.
