May 2024 graduates of the Online Master of Science in Accountancy program have seen the program transform their careers and skill sets.
“I am going for my CPA right now, so I am appreciative of all of my classes in audit,” said Kelly Shrike. “They are speaking directly to everything I am studying. The basic accounting principles are important. It’s definitely recognized in my field that having a master’s means you know what you’re doing.
“I would not be anywhere without the degree. My company just had a round of layoffs, and I feel like the degree protected me. I’ve got proven skills. My last mentor thinks I am chief financial officer material. Why not dream big?”
Hillary Demase, winner of the College of Business Economics’ Signature Student award, enjoyed the interaction and perspective she gained from her classmates.
“The degree strengthened the concepts I already had from my undergrad and work experience,” she said. “I also enjoyed making connections with other people in the program. I applied some of that knowledge to my job.
“I primarily chose Boise State because of its reputation. I was a little scared of the degree mills out there. I was looking for something more, where I would actually learn and not just pay to get a piece of paper that says I have a master’s.”
With the skills and knowledge he gained in the Online Master of Science in Accountancy program, Joel Tillman has seen the difference in his prospects.
“Having a master’s degree absolutely opened some doors for me,” he said. “I applied for six positions and ended up with three offers within two months. It was a good market at that point. I got a great return on investment.
“Once I was in the program, I found that there were more aspects of accounting that I didn’t know about. There were also aspects of it that I really enjoyed.”
