Whether you’re struggling with your foundation courses or simply want to stay ahead, tutoring can be a powerful resource throughout the semester. Many students think of tutoring as something to seek out only when their grades start to slip, but using support services early can make coursework more manageable and help build confidence before challenges arise.
For online students at Boise State, eTutoring offers flexible academic support designed to fit a variety of schedules and learning needs. Through virtual sessions and subject-area guidance, students can connect with qualified tutors, review key concepts and strengthen foundational skills in courses that often form the base for their degree path.
The following information breaks down how eTutoring services work for online students, what subjects are available and how you can connect with online tutors or support staff.
How eTutoring for online students works
Boise State’s Advising and Academic Support Center offers in-person and virtual tutoring sessions across several subjects. For more information on the availability of tutoring support for your online course, use the online tutoring request form below or email academicsupport@boisestate.edu.
Scheduling
While services aren’t available 24/7, there is some evening availability to accommodate different schedules. The tutoring schedule is fixed, so students can’t request additional times. You can search the tutoring schedule by subject to find available sessions.
If tutoring for a specific course is not currently offered, staff can help guide students toward other support options, such as instructor office hours.
Available subjects
The eTutoring program operates through a “consortium model.” This means the tutor may not have taken the exact course offered at Boise State but is still qualified to help you at the subject level.
Most tutoring support focuses on 100- and 200-level foundation courses, where students often need the most help. The mathematics, chemistry and writing centers provide the largest amount of online tutoring support and are common starting points for students seeking assistance.
Meeting with online tutors
During scheduled tutoring hours, a Zoom link appears on the eTutoring homepage that you can join to meet with a tutor.
