MBA admissions: How to build a strong application without a GMAT score

Boise State University’s online Master of Business Administration (MBA) no longer requires the GMAT or GRE as part of its admissions requirements.

The test scores were previously used to gauge the potential success and level of preparation for students applying for graduate-level programs. In 2023, Boise State adjusted its policy because these scores did not always reflect a student’s ability.

Instead, your work experience, achievements and personal professional and academic goals are now prioritized. With no GMAT or GRE requirement, Boise State promotes equity and accessibility in the Online MBA admissions process.

Evaluating applicants without these barriers allows a broader range of students to apply and encourages greater diversity and inclusivity in the program. Boise State values a rich diversity of perspectives in the classroom and views it as a fundamental part of an Online MBA education.

So, how do you build a strong application without a GMAT or GRE score? Your experience goes a long way. By emphasizing your professional career achievements and work history, you can demonstrate the necessary tools to earn an Online MBA.

To apply, you’ll first submit an application to Boise State University and upload your transcripts. You’ll then complete the Online MBA application, which includes a resume, personal statement, recommendation forms and an optional essay. The optional essay gives you an opportunity to provide additional context about your background, career goals or academic experience.
