With threats to national and global security increasing every day, the cybersecurity career field is one of the most important and impactful disciplines in the business landscape.
The cybersecurity world constantly needs diverse perspectives, problem-solving approaches and ways of thinking to tackle the complex challenges facing all industries.
Boise State University’s online Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science in Cyber Operations and Resilience and online Master of Science in Cyber Operations and Resilience programs provide the skills needed to protect critical systems, tackle hands-on projects and close the cybersecurity workforce gap.
Designed for students from a variety of educational and professional backgrounds, the programs reduce barriers to entry while providing practical, career-focused training. They are especially well suited for professionals with military, law enforcement or technical experience who want to advance or transition into cybersecurity.
What does cybersecurity protect?
The world of cybersecurity requires protection of interconnected systems, such as healthcare, energy and transportation. Infiltration of these systems can create a larger risk.
Because these systems are connected, a single vulnerability can have widespread consequences. A cyberattack on one organization can disrupt multiple services, making resilience just as important as prevention.
Unlike traditional cybersecurity programs that focus narrowly on tech or coding, Boise State trains you to build resilience across people, processes and technology using a systems-thinking model, helping you learn to protect complex, interdependent systems.
Some real-world cybersecurity examples include: viruses, worms, trojans, ransomware, cryptojacking, spyware, adware, fileless malware and rootkits. With so many potential threats, the importance of cybersecurity today is at an all-time high.
Tailor your learning
Boise State’s cybersecurity and resilience programs feature a stackable design — certificates, credentials and degree pathways — that allow you to earn meaningful milestones as you go.
The bachelor’s degree program options allow you to facilitate your move to make a career change with three optional certificates that can be added to a bachelor’s degree or earned as stand-alone credentials.
These 12-credit cyber certificates can be completed in as few as two semesters:
- Certificate in Cyber Operations: Learn to create and protect resilient systems and networks with an education that is more than theory-based and centered on real-world application.
- Certificate in Applied Computing, Systems and Network: Learn the fundamental principles of secure design, computational thinking, cloud computing, python programming and more.
- Certificate in Cyber for All: All students, regardless of major, need to understand fundamental cyber defense skills and the implications of good versus bad cyber hygiene. This certificate bridges that gap.
The master’s degree offers three 9-credit certificate options that can be earned as part of the degree or as a stand-alone credential and completed in as few as two semesters. They are:
- Graduate Certificate in Analyst and Threat Intelligence: Centered in real-world application, this option prepares you to be an industry-ready professional and create and protect resilient systems and networks through analytics and threat intelligence.
- Graduate Certificate in Governance Policy Administration: Learn to make decisions based on the ethics, laws, policies and governance of the cybersecurity field.
- Graduate Certificate in Resilience Engineering: Prepare to analyze operation and resiliency policies, metrics, testing and security solutions for an entity using both rigorous risk assessment and threat intelligence people, processes, tools and measures.
