Pets on Campus Guidelines

Pets in University Housing

a. Faculty and staff are permitted to have Pets in University-owned housing to the extent permitted by their rental agreement.

b. Outdoors, Pets must be on a leash in voice or physical control of the Handler at all times. Pets are not permitted to run at large on University property, and are not allowed in classrooms, on University shuttles, at University event venues such as the Morrison Center or the Special Event Center, or in dining or food preparation areas.

c. Pets may be excluded if the Handler fails to abide by the Handler’s Expectations in University Policy 9160 (Animals on Campus) Appendix A.

Pets in Work Areas

a. An employee may request to bring their Pet to their individual work area (e.g., cubicle or private office) by completing the Animals on Campus Pet Request Form. The form must be completed and approved through the college/school or division’s approval process prior to the employee bringing their Pet to their individual work area.

b. The supervisor or manager has the authority to approve or deny such requests. Positions that require in-person interaction with students, the general public, or co-workers; positions where the work is performed in various locations on campus (e.g., custodial, maintenance, security officers, etc.); or positions that require routine work in restricted areas under section 7.3 will not be approved.

c. An employee who brings their Pet to their individual work area without permission, or who brings more than one Pet to their work area, or whose Pet has been excluded due to a complaint or for any other reason(s) that violate this policy, may be subject to corrective or disciplinary action as outlined in section 10 – Policy Non-Compliance.

d. Outdoors, Pets must be on a leash in physical control of the Handler at all times. Pets are not permitted to run at large on University property, and are not allowed in classrooms, on University shuttles, at University event venues such as the Morrison Center or the Special Event Center, or in dining or food preparation areas.

e. Pets may be excluded if the Handler fails to abide by the Handler’s Expectations in University Policy 9160 (Animals on Campus) Appendix A.
