The Idaho State Board of Education recognizes that extended periods of leadership transition place real demands on a university community. Faculty, staff, students and the broader Boise State community have continued to do exceptional work on behalf of the university throughout this process, and the Board does not take that steadiness for granted. With that in mind, ensuring a smooth, stable transition is a top priority, and the steps outlined below reflect that commitment.
Leadership continuity
The Idaho State Board of Education again extends its sincere appreciation to Interim President Jeremiah Shinn for his leadership and service to Boise State University during this important period. Dr. Shinn’s work has helped guide the university with stability and focus, and we are grateful for his contributions to both the institution and the search process.
We also congratulate Dr. Shinn on his selection as President of the University of Montana. This opportunity reflects his strong leadership and commitment to higher education, and we wish him continued success in his new role.
The Board is pleased to announce that Dr. Nancy Glenn, Vice President of Research and Economic Development, will serve as Acting President of Boise State University upon Dr. Shinn’s departure. Dr. Glenn brings extensive leadership experience across the university and a deep commitment to Boise State’s students, faculty, staff, and community, and the Board is confident she will ensure continuity of strong and effective leadership during this period.
Presidential search update
The search for Boise State’s next president remains on schedule. Interviews with semifinalist candidates have taken place, and subcommittee leaders representing a broad range of stakeholder groups participated in those conversations. The search committee remains actively engaged in identifying a president who will build on the university’s momentum and serve its students, faculty, staff, and the broader community.
Looking ahead, the Board anticipates considering recommended finalists in May and publicly announcing the sole finalist at the June Board meeting, followed by the required 10-business-day public review period before a final decision is made. The Board remains committed to identifying and appointing Boise State’s next president in time for the start of the fall semester. The campus community will be provided with ways to engage with the finalist during the review period including remote options. Please monitor your email for these opportunities.
The Board remains confident in the strength of Boise State University and excited about its future. Additional updates will be shared as the search progresses.
