McAnnis-Gerhardt, Dawn Maureen – Home range, activity budgets, and habitat use of ferruginous hawks (buteo regalis) breeding in southwest Idaho. 1991.

Alumni Research

I estimated home range size and habitat use of seven radio-equipped male ferruginous hawks (Buteo regalis) nesting in southwestern Idaho during 1988 and 1989. Based on minimum convex polygons, home range sizes averaged 7.6 km2. Home ranges consisted of a variety of habitat types, and habitat use within home ranges differed significantly from that which was available. A slight trend toward use of open habitats was noted, but the amount of grass and rehabilitated burned area within home ranges did not appear to affect home range size or nest productivity.
