Rogers, Heather M.
In 2003, Heather received her M.S. in Raptor Biology from Boise State University, studying North American Accipiters.
Currently, Heather is a Research Biologist for The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) in Bethesda, Maryland. The focus of the NIDDK lab is studying the role of cytokines, particularly erythropoietin, in maintaining stem/progenitor cell characteristics including cytoprotection and metabolic response during stress. Emphasis is on transcriptional regulation, proliferation/differentiation, stress/ischemic response and glucose metabolism/obesity. They are particularly interested in multi-tissue response to erythropoietin including hematopoietic, neuronal, muscle, endothelial, fat and other stem/progenitor cells and iPS cells. Heather’s focus is with erythroid progenitor cells looking at erythropoiesis, glucose metabolism, and oxygen consumption.
Heather lives in Maryland with her husband and their two boys. Outside of work, Heather’s interests are supporting local agriculture, fighting childhood obesity, and promoting minorities and disadvantaged communities in the sciences. She is also active in her church and her sons’ school.
