Snowy Owl Study with Massachusetts Audubon Society
PI: Kirk Bates
For several years the Raptor Research Center has collaborated with the Massachusetts Audubon Society’s Blue Hills Trailside Museum to study the annual movements of snowy owls.
Using satellite telemetry, we track snowy owls marked during winter in the vicinity of Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts, and, to date, we continue to learn more about their wintering areas, spring and fall migration routes, and summering/breeding regions.
Our project contributes results about the migration routes and destinations of snowy owls of eastern North America, which are critical for developing conservation plans for species that are expected to be affected by changes in the environment.
