In 1996, Kate received her M.S. in Raptor Biology from Boise State University, studying altricial passerines.

After graduating from Boise State University, Kate moved to Texas for a year where she taught high school biology and earth science.

In 2000, she earned her education degree from Lincoln University and moved to Missouri with her husband.

Kate earned her National Board Certification for teaching in 2010.

Currently, Kate is the Science Department Chair and is teaching seventh grade science at Lewis and Clark Middle School in Jefferson City, Missouri.
