Meet Ally

Hey! My name is Ally Smith, a Geoscience major here at Boise State University. The summer before my freshman year, I went on the summer orientation backpacking trip with the Outdoor Program. In the beginning, I was nervous, I didn’t know anybody, and I had never gone backpacking before. It turns out; I had nothing to worry about. The trip was my entry into a whole new community; it’s still one of my favorite memories at Boise State. Instantly I felt a part of the group, and it was a weekend of many laughs, late-night card games, and some of the most beautiful mountains in Idaho. It guided me to some of my best friends today. I wish I could go back! Now I am a part of the Outdoor Programs itself, leading the very trips that introduced me to the program. I would never have guessed that one trip would have been the door to where I am now. Every day I get to share my passion for outdoor adventure with students coming from every background, and nothing makes me happier than seeing all the new faces coming into the Outdoor Program! I am so grateful for that experience, and it’s one that I won’t forget.
