Post Enrollment Requisite Checking (PERC)

PERC Process

How Does a Grade of I (Incomplete) Impact the PERC Process?

The PERC process will not drop students from courses based on grades of I (incomplete). After grades are official, the Registrar’s Office sends departments a list of students with grades of I.

How Does the PERC Process Impact Courses that were Enrolled in Using Permission Numbers?

The PERC process will not drop students from courses that they enrolled in using permission numbers.

How Does the PERC Process Impact Summer Enrollment?

The PERC process will be completed approximately 1-2 weeks into the Summer Session. If a student no longer meets the prerequisite for a course they are enrolled in for the 1st 7-week or 14-week sessions, they will be dropped (and dismissed) by the Registrar’s Office. Students who are enrolled in the 1st 3-week session will not be dropped.

What if a Student Repeats a Course During the Summer Session that is a Prerequisite to a Fall Course that They are Enrolled in?

The PERC process will ignore this student in this situation as the summer session would be conditionally satisfying the requisite. If the student drops the course during the summer session, the fall course will be dropped once the PERC process is run after the summer grades have been made official.

Can a Department Choose which Classes are Eligible for the PERC Process?

No, courses cannot excluded from the PERC process. All courses will be included in the PERC process.

Is it Possible, At Least a Day or Two Before the Students will be Dropped, to  Email Department Chairs a List of Those Students Who Will be Auto Dropped?

No. Due to the tight schedule between terms, we don’t have the time to wait for responses. An example would be between summer end-of-term and fall start-of-term where grades are final on Friday and classes start on Monday, as well as summer classes start before spring grades are final.

When are Courses Dropped During the PERC Process?

As soon as grades are official, the PERC process is run and courses will be dropped. Students and departments are sent communications informing them of the drops.

When Students are Dropped from Courses with Existing Waiting Lists, will the Students Immediately Enroll into the Course?

Students will move off the waitlist every three hours.

What Grade is Needed to Satisfy Requisites?

Undergraduate students need to complete prerequisites with a grade of C- or better, unless otherwise specified by the department offering the course.

Graduate students need to complete prerequisites with a grade of B- or better, unless otherwise specified by the department offering the course.

If Dropped from Courses, Will Students be able to Add Other Courses, In Order to Maintain Full-Time Status or Financial Aid Eligible?

The PERC process will occur before the start of the fall and spring semesters. Students who are dropped from classes will have a short period of time to enroll in other classes before the start of the term.

Yes, the communication will be sent to the student’s Boise State email address. Students can view the prerequisites of a course in the course catalog.

Will the System Recognize Other Methods of Meeting the Prerequisites, Such as Transferred Credit or Test Scores?

Yes, as long as these have been approved and set up as requisites for the course.

Is the PERC Process Run after Each Semester or will it be Run after Each Session within a Semester?

The PERC process is currently run prior to the start of the fall, spring, or summer semesters.
