Drones – Unmanned Aircraft Systems
Whatever one calls them – Unmanned Aircraft, Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), or drones – they are fast becoming an integral tool for research, teaching, and service. The University supports their use while considering the privacy, security, liability, and safety issues that come along with them.
University Users (i.e. employees, students, affiliates, volunteers) and visitors must follow the University’s Drone Operations policy (#12120) along with any other applicable federal, state, or local laws/regulations…and of course, any other University policy. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is the primary regulator of drones.
