NSF Accepting Nominations for the Alan T. Waterman Award

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is seeking nominations for the Alan T. Waterman Award.

Summary:

The Alan T. Waterman Award is the highest honor awarded to early-career scientists and engineers by the National Science Foundation (NSF). In addition to a medal, each awardee receives a grant of $1,000,000 over five years for scientific research or advanced study in any field of science or engineering that the NSF supports at the institution of the recipient’s choice. NSF is accepting nominations for the Alan T. Waterman Award until September 20, 2021.

NSF seeks nominations that reflect the diversity of the United States of America. Nominees are accepted from all sources, in any field of science or engineering that the NSF supports.

Award:

$ 1,000,000 over 5 years (plus a medal and recognition)

Eligibility, Selection Criteria, and Nomination Requirements:

  • S Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • 40 years of age or younger or not more than 10 years beyond receipt of Ph.D. by December 31 of this year
  • The candidate demonstrates exceptional individual achievements in scientific or engineering research of sufficient quality to be placed at the forefront of their peers
  • The candidate’s research should demonstrate originality, innovation, and a significant impact on the fields of science or engineering
  • Nomination packages consist of a nomination and four letters of reference
  • The references cannot come from the nominee’s home institution

  • August 25, 2021 – Notify OSP Pre-Award (preaward@boisestate.edu) of intent to submit a nomination to NSF
  • September 13, 2021 – Final Documents for submission due to OSP Pre-Award
  • September 20, 2021 – Submission due to NSF (with assistance from OSP Pre-Award)
