Limited Submission Notice: Mountain West CTR-IN 2022-2023 Single Investigator Pilot Project Grant (PPG)

Summary:

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to provide promising early career and / or other mid- level to senior investigators with support to obtain the key preliminary data that will support and inform a competitive “R-level” grant application to NIH or other extramural funding sources. Projects must involve human subjects and be clinical and/or translational in nature; CTR-IN does not support pre-clinical research.

Award:

Direct Costs of $60,000 for the project period from July 15, 2022 through June 30, 2023.

Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline:

 Five (5) applications per institution are permitted.

Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program.  For such approval, Principal Investigators must first submit a one-page white paper to preaward@boisestate.edu by Monday, October 11.

If selected to submit a full proposal, PIs must ensure that proposals meet all requirements stated in the RFP, in the announcement, and in the implementing laws and regulations related to this state grant program.

Key Submission Dates:

  • October 11, 2021 – White paper due to preaward@boisestate.edu. We encourage you to cc your Dean for visibility as well.
  • October 15, 2021 – Internal Awardees Notified
  • December 1, 2021 – Nominating Packets due to CTR-IN*
  • December 8, 2021 – Invitations to investigators to submit full applications with be issued by CTR-IN
  • March 2, 2022 – Full proposal due to OSP
  • March 9, 2022 – Full proposal due to CTR-IN

*Early submission of the nomination is encouraged.  If CTR-IN finds an error prior to the December 1 due date, the nomination may be updated.

Important Notes on Requirements:

  • CTR-IN is hosting a webinar on this opportunity will be held on October 6th at 2:00 PM Mountain Time. You can join following this zoom link.
  • The PI must 1) have a faculty-level appointment with a minimum of 0.5 FTE support at Boise State, and 2) must be eligible to submit extramural grant applications as a PI. The PI must devote at least 20% effort (2.4 person months) to the Pilot Grant project. Prior CTR-IN awardees are eligible to apply, but they must be in good standing (i.e., submission of requested progress reports and updates). Per IDeA program policy, an awardee may not concurrently receive funding for their research program through other IDeA mechanisms (e.g., CTR, COBRE or INBRE).
  • Specific themes for priority funding issues include (but are not limited to):
    • Childhood obesity and metabolic conditions including diabetes and other related factors of food security, food sovereignty, and healthy food access.
    • Opioid and other substance abuse, mental health / suicide prevention and psycho-social trauma.
    • COVID-19, including impacts to healthcare access, associated influences on mental health, and disproportionate impacts to vulnerable populations.
