Summary:

The Technology program at the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation supports research, training, community-building, and technological innovation in order to foster advances in the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge. The program is currently soliciting Letters of Inquiry from Principal Investigators at U.S. research institutions to launch Open Source Program Offices (OSPOs). Successful Letters of Inquiry will offer a clear vision for a long-term institutional support ecosystem for open source software – and the university faculty, students, research software engineers, and staff who build and maintain it – beyond the funding period.

Award:

Grant amounts are expected to be up to $750,000 over a two-year period.

Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline:

One (1) application per institution are permitted.

Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program. For such approval, Principal Investigators (PIs) must submit an email indicating intent to submit to preaward@boisestate.edu by February 3, 2023 at 10 AM. If multiple PIs express interest, we will conduct a short white paper round.

If permitted to submit a full proposal, PIs must ensure that proposals meet all requirements stated in the RFP, in the announcement, and in the implementing laws and regulations related to this grant program.

Key Submission Dates:

  • February 3, 2023 at 10 AM – Email indicating interest due to preaward@boisestate.edu.
  • February 8, 2023 – Full proposal due to OSP
  • February 15, 2023 at 3 PM – Full proposal due to Sponsor
