Limited Submission Notice: Grants for Arts Projects FY26 February Cycle

Summary

Through project-based funding, Grants for Arts Projects (GAP) supports a range of arts activities to enable Americans throughout the nation to experience the arts, foster and celebrate America’s artistic heritage and cultural legacy, and benefit from arts education at all stages of life. The program also supports arts and health programs, including creative arts therapies, that advance the well-being of people and communities. Applications for arts projects that focus on one or more agency funding priorities are strongly encouraged.

NEA funds arts projects in the following disciplines: Arts Education, Dance, Design & Our Town, Folk & Traditional Arts, Literary Arts, Local Arts Agencies, Museums, Music, Opera, Our Town, Presenting & Multidisciplinary Works, Theater & Musical Theater, and Visual & Media Arts.

Award

  • $10,000 to $100,000 for up to two (2) years. 
  • All grants require a nonfederal cost share/match of at least 1 to 1.

Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline

One (1) application per institution is permitted in a calendar year; however, organizations like Boise State that have “separately identifiable and independent components (e.g., a university campus that has a presenting organization and a radio station)” may submit an application for each such component.

White Paper Process 

Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program. For such approval, PIs must first submit a white paper form by 4 pm on January 8, 2026.

Key Submission Dates

  • January 8, 2026 – White papers due
  • January 19, 2026 – Anticipated date Internal Awardees Notified
  • January 26, 2026 – Final budget and cost share information due to OSP
  • February 5, 2026 – Full proposal due to OSP
  • February 12, 2026 – Part 1 of proposal due to NEA through grants.gov
  • February 18, 2026 – Part 2 of proposal due to NEA through NEA’s applicant portal

Important Note on Requirements:

  • Cost Share is required for this program. Cost Share forms must be submitted for approval to your Pre-Award Research Administrator at least 10 days prior to the sponsor submission deadline. Failure to do so will result in cost share not being approved.
  • The Artistic Disciplines are described on the NEA Grants for Arts Projects website.
