Summary

The NSF EPSCoR Graduate Fellowship Program (EGFP) is a three-year pilot program intended to advance graduate talent recruitment, development, and retention at graduate institutions in EPSCoR jurisdictions. Awardee institutions will select fellowship recipients, the NSF EPSCoR Graduate Fellows, from the pool of exceptional talent who received Honorable Mention from the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) no more than three years prior to the proposal due date. EGFP awards are made to institutions to support graduate students in specific fields of study. Participating NSF Directors and Offices are: Biological Sciences, Computer and Information Science and Engineering, Engineering, Geosciences, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Social Behavioral and Economic Sciences, STEM Education, Technology Innovation and Partnerships, and Integrative Activities.

Award

Proposals must request at least the amount of funding required to support three Fellows over three years ($477,000 total). It is anticipated that no proposals will request support for more than 20 Fellows over three years ($3,180,000 total). It is also anticipated that the average award size will allow five Fellows to be supported for three years ($795,000 total).


Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline

One (1) proposal per institution.

Notice of Interest Process
If interested in this submission, please complete the Notice of Interest (NOI) form by 4 PM on January 22, 2026. Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program.

**If necessary, a further white paper round may be required**

Priority will be given to proposals that will support PhD students. The Division will consider consolidating the application centrally to leverage multiple PhD pathways.

Key Submission Dates

  • January 22, 2026 by 4 pm – Notice of Interest due 
  • February 4, 2026 – White Paper due (if necessary)
  • February 16, 2026 – Anticipated date applicants will be notified of approval
  • Upon Notification – Proposal Intake Form due to OSP Pre-Award
  • May 22, 2026 – All final proposal documents due to OSP
  • June 1, 2026 – Full proposal due to NIH

Important Note on Sponsor Requirements
An individual must not participate as PI, Co-PI, or Senior/Key Personnel on more than one proposal submitted for the same deadline.
