Limited Submission Notice:  Nuclear Energy University Program, Scientific Infrastructure Support for Consolidated Innovative Nuclear Research (CINR)

Summary

The Scientific Infrastructure Support for Consolidated Innovative Nuclear Research (CINR) aims to  (1) support, maintain, or enhance the institution’s capacities to attract and teach high quality students interested in nuclear energy-related studies; (2) build the institution’s research or education capabilities; and (3) enhance the institution’s capabilities to perform R&D that is relevant to NE’s mission. Boise State is eligible for Topic Area 2: General Scientific Infrastructure (GSI). 

The goals of Topic Area 2 are:

  • Procurement of equipment, software, instrumentation, and associated non-reactor upgrade requests that support nuclear energy-related R&D or education.
  • Procurement of equipment and instrumentation for specialized facilities, classrooms, and teaching laboratories, and non-reactor nuclear science and engineering research.
  • Procurement of infrastructure that supports the sharing and use of equipment and instrumentation by multiple campuses of a university, multiple universities, or with national laboratories is encouraged.
  • Procurement of infrastructure that supports existing or future Nuclear Science User Facilities (NSUF) capabilities at institutions of higher education is encouraged.

Award

Approximate dollar amount of individual awards: $250,000. 
Approximate award project period: 12 months (longer project periods are allowable).


Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline

One (1) application per institution is permitted.

White Paper Process 
Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program. For such approval, PIs must first submit a white paper form by 4 pm on February 5, 2026

Key Submission Dates

  • February 5, 2026 by 4 pm – White Paper Due
  • February 19, 2026 – Anticipated date applicants will be notified of approval
  • Upon Notification –  Proposal Intake Form due to OSP Pre-Award 
  • April  2, 2026 – Final documents due date to OSP 
  • April  9, 2026 – Full proposal due to Department of Energy

Important Note on Sponsor Requirements

  • Minimum cost share required: Cost Sharing is not required, but is encouraged, for requests less than or equal to $250,000; a 1-to-1 Cost Match is required for requests greater than $250,000.
