Limited Submission Notice: Murdock Charitable Trust Strategic Project Grant 2026

Summary

This capacity-building award is for mission-focused projects and infrastructure investment. The Trust has four Strategic Priority Areas of focus: (1) Artistic & Cultural Expression; (2) Civic Engagement & Community Services; (3) Education & Leadership Development; and (4) Health & Environmental Stewardship. 

Funding can support:

  • Capital Projects – supports construction, renovation, land purchase and other capital upgrades. The Trust prefers requests for these types of projects once your organization has raised a portion of the needed funds.
  • Equipment & Technology – supports non-research equipment or technology. Recipient organizations are responsible for 50% or greater of the purchase cost.
  • New Staff or Program Expansion- supports new programs, the expansion of existing programs, start-up costs, and related new staff additions, structured on a declining basis over three years (100/67/33%).
Grant Guidelines

Award

Minimum grant request amount is $100,000. There is no maximum budget amount, the Trust encourages applicants to ask for what is most appropriate for the specific project

Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline

One (1) proposal per institution is permitted. A Letter of Intent (LOI) must be submitted first to the Trust and invited for a full proposal. There are two submission windows (see below) for LOIs.

White Paper Process 
Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program. For such approval, PIs must first submit a white paper form by 4 pm on 16 April 2026

  • April 16, 2026 by 4 pm – White Paper due
  • April 30, 2026 – Anticipated date applicants will be notified of approval 
  • Upon Notification – Proposal Intake Form due to OSP Pre-Award 

    Summer
  • June 24 – August 3, 2026 by 9 am – Final LOI documents due to OSP 
  • July 1 – August 10, 2026 – LOI due to Murdock Charitable Trust

    Fall
  • October 8 – November 13, 2026 by 9am – Final LOI documents due to OSP
  • October 15 – November 20, 2026 – LOI due to Murdock Charitable Trust

Important Notes on Sponsor Requirements
The University currently has an LOI under consideration with the Trust. The anticipated notification date is May 31, 2026. If invited for a full proposal, the University will not be eligible to submit an LOI this year.
