Brittany Brand, Director of the Resilience Institute at Boise State University, led a short course for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute: Building Resilient Communities: A Workshop on Thriving Together
The interactive workshop explored why some communities thrive in times of change while others struggle, introducing practical tools used across Idaho to strengthen connection, collaboration, and shared goals. Participants worked in small groups on a hands-on activity, helping a fictional rural town identify strengths, address challenges, and build a path to resilience. The session, held on Thursday, April 2, brought together 37 participants.

Attendees shared positive feedback, including: “Very engaging presentation. I liked doing an activity based on community’s issues.” and “A very informative session with some great opportunities to ‘learn by doing.’”
