Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Education, Department of Respiratory Care

Jeff Anderson, an associate professor in the department of Respiratory Care has been a respiratory care practitioner since graduation from Madison Area Technical College in Madison, Wisconsin. After graduation he worked at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics for six years in the trauma and life support center, burn unit, cardiac surgery and medicine intensive care units, hematology, oncology, pediatrics, and pediatrics intensive care units.

He briefly served as clinical director of the UW respiratory care department, but had the opportunity to transfer to the pulmonary function laboratory. During his tenure as clinical director of the PFT lab he developed the hospital’s pulmonary exercise testing lab and polysomnography (sleep study) lab. He recently found out that he did the first sleep study in the State of Wisconsin in about 1978.

His interest in exercise testing led him to complete a BS degree in exercise physiology from the University of Wisconsin. After graduation he joined the faculty of Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Florida for three years before joining the Boise State Respiratory Care faculty in 1986.

His primary areas of interest include adult critical care, critical care monitoring, pulmonary function testing, and exercise physiology.

Since joining the faculty he has received the AT and Esther Steele award for clinical teaching, the Provost’s advising award, and the College of Health Sciences Faculty Service award.

In alignment with his faculty service award, Jeff is a frequent presenter at local, state, and regional respiratory care meetings. Jeff is also recognized as an effective teacher for diverse groups of students via his Medical Terminology and Cardiopulmonary Renal Anatomy and Physiology course (some of his favorites).
