Megan Koster, EdD, RRT, RRT-NPS, FAARC
Clinical Professor and Chair
Research Interests: My clinical background is in neonatal and pediatric respiratory care. I have a developing interest in respiratory neuroscience, especially in the area of sleep. Most of my research has focused on the academic setting and educational methodologies prevalent across respiratory care. However, I feel pretty comfortable with my ability to find a methodology to fit most research interests.
Methodology: Bench, survey, observational, and descriptive research, as well as the development of narrative reviews. Understanding of basic statistical approaches using Intellectus, SPSS, or Excel. Lots of experience creating and submitting abstracts, developing posters, and moving to the manuscript phase.

Amanda Leightner, PhD, RRT, RRT-SDS, CCSH, RPSGT, RST, CCSH, FAARC
Clinical Associate Professor, MSRC Faculty
Research Interests: My research focuses on the neurobiological and behavioral mechanisms underlying sleep and circadian rhythms, with particular emphasis on their roles in cognitive function, mental health, and chronic disease risk. I employ a range of methodologies, but those in sleep include polysomnography and actigraphy alongside experimental and observational designs. My work also incorporates ecological momentary assessment and wearable technology to capture sleep patterns in naturalistic settings, aiming to translate findings into personalized and population-level interventions.

Jessica Foreman-Starks MSRC, RRT, RRT-ACCS
Clinical Assistant Professor, DAP Faculty
Research Interests: I have studied outcomes for patients with COPD, asthma, and other chronic pulmonary diseases, primarily in the transition from hospital to home. These include rates of readmission and exacerbations, mortality, and cost of care. Patient and caregiver education and training are also areas of strength. I also have experience working in organ procurement and would love to study the impact of respiratory therapists in the organ procurement role.Â
Methodology: Observational studies, survey-based research, descriptive statistics, and narrative reviews.

Lanny Inabnit PhD, RRT, RRT-ACCS, RRT-NPS, RCP, FAARC
Clinical Assistant Professor, DAP Faculty
Research Interests: I study outcomes in patients with COPD, OSA, Asthma, and ARDS. These include readmission rates, mortality, and the cost of care. I also examine urban-rural differences in outcomes. I am also interested in EMR data to look at variables that impact ICU LOS in patients with pulmonary diseases.
Methodology: HCUP datasets. Descriptive statistics, binary and multiple logistic regression, Chi-square testing, generalized linear models.

Alyssa Zemke MSRC, RRT, RRT-ACCS
Director of Clinical Education Clinical Associate Professor, Entry into Practice Program
Research Interests: My clinical background is in adult critical care. I have an interest in education and research involving tracheostomy and laryngectomy management/care and awareness, finding optimal PEEP in mechanically ventilated patients, and optimizing clinical outcomes for entry-to-practice respiratory care students.Â
Methodology: Descriptive statistics, survey-based research, retrospective reviews, and narrative reviews.

DeDe Gardner, DrPH, RRT, RRT-NPS, FAARC, FCCP
Chief Research Officer, Asthma and Allergy Network
Research Interests: My research interests intersect with the patient voice being involved in research at the beginning of an idea through to publication, dissemination, and adoption. I am a member of several guideline committees and engaged in the guideline development process:Â National Asthma Education Prevention Program (NAEPP) Guideline Committee, CHEST guideline oversight committee, ERS/ATS Severe Asthma Guideline Committee, and ATS/AAAAI/ACAAI Guideline Committee for Asthma and Chronic Urticaria. Therefore, I am skilled in systematic and meta-analysis, scoping and narrative literature reviews. My recent interest focuses on patient/caregiver insights about health-seeking behaviors for asthma, skin, and allergic diseases through survey research. I am also skilled in writing plain language summaries of studies because patients need to know what we are studying and how the outcomes can impact them or their loved ones.
Methodology: Systematic and meta-analysis, scoping and narrative reviews. Survey research and descriptive statistics.
