Overview
MathTAC is a three-year teacher leadership collaborative where teachers work closely with the math specialists at the Regional Math Centers across Idaho to develop leadership capacity within the math teaching community. Each year, teachers will collaboratively study selected materials to help establish their individual learning focus. After the first year, participants will choose one of two pathway options to continue their growth as a leader.
First Year – Exploring Action
All MathTACs will focus on learning and improving their classroom practices. They will create an action plan to implement one of the eight effective teaching and learning practices.
Second Year
Select a pathway choice of classroom action or mentoring in mathematics.
- Classroom Action – MathTACs will plan and implement an action plan that meets the needs of their team, department, or school. They will take a deep dive into one content standard and present at the RMC annual conference.
- Mentoring in Mathematics – Idaho Mentor Teachers will receive training on coaching mathematics instruction and the SDE Framework for Student Centered Learning.
Third Year
In the third year, the classroom action pathway choice continues to expanding action while the mentoring in mathematics choice continues to new teacher mentoring.
- Expanding Action – MathTACs will plan and implement an action plan that addresses the needs of their school, district, or area. They will take a deep dive into one content standard and present at the RMC annual conference.
- New Teacher Mentoring – Idaho Mentor Teachers will mentor new teachers in Idaho. Assignments will be individually determined between the mentor and the new teacher based on demonstration of the Mathematics Teaching Practices and the SDE Framework for Student Centered Learning.
