Idaho Transfer Student

An Idaho transfer student is defined as an individual who has earned 14 or more semester credits post-high school by the scholarship deadline and holds Idaho residency. Students with concurrent college credit during high school are considered new students.

Complete the steps below to maximize your funding opportunities.

STEP 1: Apply for Admissions

By submitting a complete application and meeting the criteria listed below, you will automatically be considered for one of the following scholarships without an additional application: True Blue Promise Transfer, Dean’s Transfer, or Presidential Transfer. A complete application includes the following required materials: admissions application and transcript(s). All required materials must be received by Boise State Admissions by the deadline listed below.

STEP 2: Meet the Deadline

No additional application is needed! Scholarship recipients are notified through their admission letter. Scholarships will be made visible in the Student Center three weeks after an admissions decision has been reached.

The criteria listed below are for the 2022-23 academic year. This criterion is subject to change.

  • Only incoming transfer students are considered for the True Blue Promise Transfer, Dean’s Transfer, or Presidential Transfer scholarships. Consideration is based on their admissions materials received by the scholarship deadline. A complete application includes the admissions application AND transcript(s). All criteria must be met by the deadline.
  • To be considered for the True Blue Promise Transfer scholarship students must complete the admissions process, submit the FAFSA, AND be Pell Grant Eligible* as determined by the FAFSA by February 15.
  • **Recipients must be enrolled in at least 12 credits each semester (fall & spring) and successfully complete at least 24 credits combined (fall & spring). One-semester recipient (fall or spring only) must successfully complete at least 12 credits. 
  • While courses that are repeated within the same academic year may be eligible for federal financial aid, they do not count toward the 24 credits required for scholarship renewal. To learn more about repeated credits visit the Repeated Credits webpage.
  • Priority consideration is given to students seeking their first bachelor’s degree.

STEP 3: Complete the FAFSA

The fall priority deadline is February 15 and the spring priority deadline is October 1 for both the FAFSA and Federal Student Aid Estimator.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open for the 2022-2023 academic year. The last day to submit the FAFSA for the 2022-2023 academic year is June 30, 2022, but the sooner you complete the FAFSA the sooner you will be evaluated for aid. By completing the FAFSA and Boise State Scholarship Application students can be considered for need-based scholarships and federal financial aid. If you don’t want to be considered for need-based scholarships or federal student aid, proceed to the next step.

Students who don’t meet the citizenship or eligible non-citizenship criteria for the FAFSA may still be eligible for need-based scholarships. Complete the Federal Student Aid Estimator, Boise State Scholarship Application, and questionnaire to be considered.

STEP 4: Complete the Boise State Scholarship Application

Complete the application to maximize your Boise State University scholarship opportunities.

Scholarship recipients are notified through BroncoMail and all awards are made by May 1.

The Boise State Scholarship Application opens mid-November and most scholarship opportunities close by February 15.

STEP 5: Apply for State Scholarships

The State of Idaho offers a variety of scholarships, such as the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship and the Idaho Opportunity for Adult Learners Scholarship, for eligible Idaho students who attend an Idaho institution.
