Games, Interactive Media and Mobile Technology (GIMM), now in its tenth year at Boise State University and formally established as a department this year, has become a signature strength of the School of the Arts. The program blends technical depth in virtual reality, artificial intelligence, app development and video game design with creative inquiry, storytelling and artistic expression, making it an ideal fit for the school’s interdisciplinary mission.
Students and faculty are active members of the larger artistic community, collaborating across programs to produce state-of-the-art exhibits in The Luminary. A studio-based culture emphasizes user-centered research, rapid prototyping, client and community partnerships and professional portfolio development.
Departmental status enables focused curriculum innovation, expanded research and creative activity and clearer pathways for cross-disciplinary collaboration. Graduates leave with a unique and valuable skill set and have gone on to roles at companies such as Microsoft, Amazon and Rockstar Games, representing Boise State’s innovative mindset nationwide.
