In March 2025, the School of the Arts welcomed its first Student Advisory Council. Through this group, students serve on committees based on career readiness, marketing and promotion and community engagement and belonging.
In fall 2025, Boise State welcomed its first arts-based living learning community (LLC): Artists in Residence Together, or the ART LLC. In this community, 17 students with a passion for the arts are living together in the residence halls with a faculty-in-residence in the building to lead a weekly class exploring interdisciplinary art and living an artful life.
The new Graphic History Vertically Integrated Project brings together history, creative writing and visual arts students. Faculty from the various departments designed the curriculum and created a collaborative framework for the project. This interdisciplinary project will see its first students in spring 2026.
The School of the Arts launched its new Creative Arts Technology Certificate in fall 2025. Students can learn functional technology skills to succeed in creative careers in film production, photography, photography, digital tools, coding and music technology. The certificate is a badge that signals technological proficiency to employers in creative careers.
The theatre program worked with the College of Arts and Sciences Student Success team on Strategies for Theatre Students Advocacy, Growth and Excellence (STAGE) to improve student retention rates among first-year and transfer students at Boise State. This collaboration led to an online handbook of “How2” videos, a peer mentorship program and a student panel to support and advise retention efforts.
