Singer/songwriter competition seeks student submissions

The School of the Arts and Department of Music are offering a two-day songwriting workshop titled Side B: Bronco Songwriting Collective, designed to ignite campus-wide student interest in music and songwriting. The workshop will culminate in a songwriting competition open to all graduate and undergraduate students.

The deadline to enter the competition is March 1, 2026.

The 10 finalists will be selected to perform live and compete for prizes at the final concert on Friday, March 27, 2026 in the Centennial Amphitheatre during Treefort at Boise State.

The winner will receive a one-year $1,000 Love Missa Music Award and a four-hour professional recording session with Steve Fulton. A second-place winner will get a two-hour recording session at Boise State with a student audio engineer. Further prizes will be announced.

The Boise State Love Missa Music Award for student songwriters was established in loving memory of Melissa Brodt. Funded by her family and community, this award honors Melissa’s infectious passion for music and her dedicated support of the Idaho Songwriters Association.  This award ensures her legacy lives on in perpetuity by directly supporting students who embody her spirit of creative collaboration and her commitment to building a vibrant music community here in Boise.
