Boise State Creative Writing MFA alum Ariel Delgado Dixon published her second novel, Sourland, with Penguin Random House this summer. The novel, named a Most Anticipated Book with Electric Lit, Harper’s Bazaar, The Seattle Times, and Autostraddle, follows a struggle for succession on a Northern California marijuana farm.
“[Sourland is] Deliciously written and compulsively readable,” said Carmen Maria Machado, author of In the Dream House and Her Body and Other Parties. “As the ex-lovers of a missing weed farmer grapple for control of her land and harvest, they contend with the force of her presence and the complexities of their own pasts.”
Dixon graduated from the Boise State Creative Writing MFA Program in 2019. She published her first novel, Don’t Say We Didn’t Warn You, in 2023. An early draft of that novel served as her MFA thesis.
