Join the Creative Writing Program for a reading and reception to celebrate the publication of Kerri Webster’s latest collection of poems, “Lapis” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022 in the Hemingway Center at Boise State.

In “Lapis,” Webster, a professor in the Department of Theatre, Film and Creative Writing, writes into the vast space left by the deaths of three women: her mother, a mentor and a friend. Using a wide array of lyric forms and meditations, Webster explores matrilineages, both familial and poetic, weaving together death, spirituality, women, and a sense of the shifting earth into one “doctrine of Non-linear Revelation.”

Publisher’s Weekly writes that, “[Lapis] displays Webster’s gift for moving and surprising imagery” and that “Webster’s expert use of form and evocative vision make this [collection] affecting and memorable.”

The Creative Writing MFA Program will host a reception following the reading. Copies of “Lapis” will be available for purchase.

Webster has also authored three other books of poetry: “The Trailhead” (Wesleyan, 2018), “Grand & Arsenal” (Iowa, 2012) and “We Do Not Eat Our Hearts Alone” (Georgia, 2005). She received her MFA from Indiana University. Washington University in St. Louis selected Webster as writer in residence from 2006 to 2010. She has also received a Whiting Award and the Lucille Medwick Award from the Poetry Society of America.
