Stein Luminary Series

The School of the Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences invites proposals for the development of the Fall 2026 Series at the Keith and Catherine Stein Luminary. This initiative aims to foster engagement with the arts across disciplines, creating a dynamic experience for students, faculty and the broader university community.

We seek proposals spanning the Fall 2026 semester, categorized as follows:

Student exhibitions and events
Structured class visits
Department/university exhibitions and events

Please note that we will send out a similar request for proposals in October 2026 for the Spring 2027 semester.

Information and guidelines

Scope of proposals

Proposals should align with at least one of the goals and strategies from the College of Arts and Sciences strategic plan:

G1.S2 Integrate career education and experiential learning opportunities into the curriculum and the student experience to improve career readiness and post-graduation outcomes.
G1.S4 Cultivate a commitment to high-quality, new and innovative learning experiences in all courses, curricula, and co-curricula.
G3.S2 Develop an integrated, transdisciplinary and accessible research ecosystem dedicated to student excellence and success.
G5.S1 Leverage existing partnerships and programs and develop new opportunities with Idaho employers and private partnerships to address workforce, research, educational and service needs.
G5.S3 Create interdisciplinary structures to facilitate meaningful connections and experiences for students, faculty and staff.

Each proposal should demonstrate how it will contribute to an engaging and educational experience.

Exhibition and event categories

Student presentations

Open to undergraduate and graduate students
Can be individual or collaborative projects
Can be part of a class project
Must have a faculty mentor
Could have a community partner
Includes class presentations and showcases

Structured university class visits

Designed to integrate interactive art experiences into university courses
Must include a structured engagement activity (e.g., guided explorations, creative exercises, reflective discussions)
Can be linked to existing coursework or interdisciplinary collaborations
Can request to use spotlights from the World Museum app or previous Intuiface Exhibitions

Department/university exhibits and events

Open to all academic/non-academic units across the university
Designed to fulfill the College of Arts and Sciences strategic plan
May require additional resources

Proposal guidelines

Proposals should include:

Title and summary: A brief overview of the proposed event.
Name of contact, title, department unit and college: can be faculty and/or staff member but indicates the person who will be the point person for the project.
What is your prior experience with the Stein Luminary? Visitor, guest curator, etc.?
Category: Indicate whether the proposal is for a student presentation or a structured class visit.
Objectives and significance: Explain the goals and how they contribute to the museum’s mission.
Description of public elements: Detail how the audience will engage with the artwork or exhibition beyond purely viewing the exhibition. How many people do you expect to visit your exhibit?
Technical and space requirements: Outline any specific needs (e.g., installation setup, digital equipment, performance space).
Proposed timeline: Preferred semester and estimated duration.
Budget: Provide an outline of anticipated costs and potential funding sources.
Marketing information: A short paragraph for the public explaining the exhibition and event, which will be a starting point for marketing and communications at the school and college levels.

Please note that exhibitions and events that would like the Atrium in the Center for Visual Arts have a different process for approvals. Applicants also have the possibility of accessing the Center for Visual Arts 207 and 207A.

Selection criteria

Proposals will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

Relevance and impact: How well the proposal aligns with the mission of the Stein Luminary to illuminate perspectives, transform perception and spark imagination.
Innovation and interactivity: The extent to which the proposal fosters engagement and participation.
Feasibility and logistics: Practicality of execution within the given timeline and resources.
Strategic plan: The connection to the college’s strategic plan goals and strategies mentioned at the beginning of the page.
