Interventional Radiology Emphasis

Boise State University’s Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences with an emphasis in Interventional Radiology (IR) offers radiographers an exciting opportunity to advance their careers in one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic specialties in medical imaging. Through this on-campus program, students gain the knowledge, technical skills, and clinical experience needed to excel in the high-demand field of interventional procedures that blend cutting-edge imaging with minimally invasive patient care.

Admission to the program is selective. Applicants must complete the required prerequisite coursework and participate in an application and interview process. Once admitted, students engage in a rigorous curriculum that integrates Boise State’s foundational studies, advanced coursework in radiologic sciences, and hands-on clinical experiences. Graduates who meet all program and university requirements are awarded a Bachelor of Science degree, fully prepared to join the healthcare team as leaders in interventional radiology.

Program Description:

The Interventional Radiology (IR) emphasis at Boise State University is designed for radiographers who are ready to take the next step in their careers. Whether you are completing your first Bachelor of Science degree or pursuing a second, this program provides the pathway to advanced expertise in a field that combines state-of-the-art imaging with minimally invasive, life-saving procedures.

The IR curriculum spans three semesters and integrates classroom instruction with immersive clinical education, ensuring students gain both the theoretical foundation and hands-on experience necessary for success. In addition to the specialized IR courses, students complete required supporting coursework and Boise State’s Foundations general education program, creating a well-rounded academic experience.

The goals of the IR emphasis are clear and focused:

  • To provide the advanced education and clinical training needed to prepare students for the ARRT Vascular-Interventional Exam, equipping them to practice as highly competent Interventional Radiology Technologists.
  • To develop technologists who not only excel in technical skills, but also communicate effectively, apply patient history to practice, evaluate current research, and critically assess complex clinical situations with confidence and professionalism.

Graduates of this program leave Boise State prepared to lead in one of the most innovative and impactful areas of medical imaging.
