About Arthur Scarritt

Bio

Arthur Scarritt Vita

Arthur Scarritt is a Full Professor in the Department of Sociology at Boise State University, where he served as Department Chair for six years. His research examines how people both challenge and reproduce the multiple forms of inequality that structure their daily lives.

Dr. Scarritt’s scholarship encompasses several research areas. With support from a small grant from the National Science Foundation, he and his colleagues investigate how ostensibly inclusive U.S. political liberalism reinforces mainstream white supremacy. He also conducts international comparative research on the dynamics of racial inequality and white supremacy. In addition, his work examines the intersectional reproduction of inequality driven by the neoliberal privatization of public higher education.

Dr. Scarritt serves as Co-Director of the Intermountain Social Research Lab (IMSRL). With a legacy of more than a decade, the lab provides intensive undergraduate research training and has published extensively on neoliberal higher education. Research from the lab demonstrates how the neoliberal university socializes students to accept inequality, constrained learning, sexism, and racism that undermine the value of their education, and identifies key strategies for resisting these trends. He earned his bachelor’s degree from The Evergreen State College and his PhD from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
