The Bachelor of Science in Public Health prepares students for a career that advances the health of their communities. Students learn how to develop and mobilize community partnerships and take action to address complex public health challenges.

Emphasis Areas

Community Health Promotion Emphasis

Learn how to promote, maintain and improve individual and community health through teaching, advocacy and leadership.
Explore the factors that influence health and learn how to work collaboratively on public health issues.
Course topics include behavior change theory, communication, community collaboration, program planning and grant proposal writing.

Eta Sigma Gamma (ESG)

The Eta Sigma Gamma, Epsilon Zeta Chapter (ESG) at Boise State is a health education honorary open to any student with at least a 3.5 GPA. Learn more about Boise State ESG chapter.

Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Emphasis

If you care about our health and the environment, the EOHS emphasis is a great choice for you! Environmental and Occupational Health is the branch of public health that protects us from harmful exposures in the natural, built, and work environments. Environmental health professionals work to prevent health risks connected to events such as wildfires, extreme heat, natural disasters, and the growing water crisis. They also work to promote safe, high quality jobs and employee wellness by improving working conditions for all.

With the dramatic changes occurring in our environment and in the way we work, the field of Environmental and Occupational Health has never been more relevant. We need passionate, bright minds to work on these urgent public health problems and above all, to prevent new ones. General Public Health Emphasis Discontinued Fall 2024

The General Public Health Emphasis is being discontinued as of fall 2024. If you are a student that has already declared this emphasis area, you do not need to take any action. If you have questions, please reach out to SPPH Associate Director Jaime Sand at JaimeSand@boisestate.edu.

Change your Catalog Year

If you need to change your catalog year, please meet with your advisor to select a new catalog. Once you have determined your catalog, please fill out the Catalog Year Update Form and turn it into the Registrar’s Office.
