Q: What originally brought you to Boise State and the School of Public and Population Health?

A: I came to Boise State as a transfer student looking for a school that offered a variety of majors, classes, and extracurricular activities while not feeling too large. I was already pursuing a health related degree before attending Boise State, but the School of Public and Population Health helped to solidify that I was on the right educational path. BSU offered the classes that I needed, and was a very welcoming campus.

Q: What have you enjoyed most about your studies?

A: I have really enjoyed and appreciated the flexibility within the Health Studies degree. I was able to tailor the program to fit what I needed for my future educational goals, as well as add a minor. I have had some really great professors in the School of Public and Population Health, as well as the Biology department, that have truly cared about me as a person and student. This really helped make the classes even more enjoyable, especially when the professors were very passionate about what they were teaching.

Q: What extracurricular activities made an impact on your experience?

A: My Capstone project has been a really great experience and way to connect my education to serving the community. I have been working on improving health literacy and access to healthcare by creating a Health Navigation Guide. This has taught me so much about health education, and helped me see first hand the importance of public health interventions.

My time as a receptionist at Ascend Physical Therapy has also had a valuable impact on my experience as a Boise State Student. Working on the administrative side of healthcare has helped me better understand the flow of facilities, and appreciate the complexity of healthcare delivery. I have no doubt that my experiences at Ascend will help to support me in my future educational and career endeavors, and I am so grateful that I have had the opportunity to work at this clinic.

Q: How has your time in your program broadened your outlook on health?

A: My time in my program has helped broaden my view of what health really means. As someone who is interested in careers in both public and clinical health, I really appreciated SPPH’s expansive approach to health education. My classes and projects have really encouraged the perspective that health doesn’t stop outside the walls of medical facilities.

Q: What are you most looking forward to post-graduation (a job, travel, grad school, etc)?

A: After graduation, I am really looking forward to spending time with my family and traveling. I am exploring options to further my education, and am hoping to balance applying to these programs with employment and adventure.
