{"id":92219,"date":"2021-01-27T09:50:12","date_gmt":"2021-01-27T16:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/sps\/?p=92219"},"modified":"2023-11-29T10:20:35","modified_gmt":"2023-11-29T17:20:35","slug":"boise-state-school-of-public-service-survey-finds-optimism-among-idahoans-despite-divisions-about-the-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.boisestate.edu\/sps\/blog\/2021\/01\/boise-state-school-of-public-service-survey-finds-optimism-among-idahoans-despite-divisions-about-the-pandemic\/","title":{"rendered":"Boise State School of Public Service Survey Finds Optimism Among Idahoans Despite Divisions About the Pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BOISE STATE NEWS RELEASE \/ January 27, 2021<\/p>\n<p><strong>BOISE STATE SCHOOL OF PUBLIC SERVICE SURVEY FINDS OPTIMISM AMONG IDAHOANS DESPITE DIVISIONS ABOUT THE PANDEMIC\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Boise State School of Public Service conducted its Sixth Annual Idaho Public Policy Survey at the end of 2020, surveying 1,000 adults over the age of 18 who currently live in Idaho.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hope is that this survey serves as a resource for leaders and decision makers throughout the state,\u201d said report co-author Jeffrey Lyons, an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science. \u201cHaving information on where Idahoans stand on a number of important policy matters can inform the choices we have before us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The survey\u2019s key findings include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More Idahoans believe the state is headed in the right direction than not.<\/li>\n<li>Idahoans say education is at the top of the list of issues that the Idaho Legislature should address in the coming year.<\/li>\n<li>A narrow majority of Idahoans would get a vaccine for COVID-19 if one were available today.<\/li>\n<li>Idahoans are divided on how to use an expected budget surplus, with tax relief being the most popular option.<\/li>\n<li>Idahoans are favorable toward a criminal justice system that focuses on rehabilitation and education of offenders.<\/li>\n<li>A majority of people in the state have confidence in the security of Idaho\u2019s elections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each year, the statewide survey includes a set of unique questions that focus on a current and pressing issue.
